Does your iPhone 5 constantly search for Wi-Fi signal or pop-up to join networks? Incessant signal searching drains your mobile device’s battery, can be annoying & can pose a potential security threat.

Recently I tried to connect to an open Wi-Fi connection at my favorite restaurant. Several minutes later I noticed my iPhone still searching for a signal draining my battery. Open public wireless networks can also be a security issue granting identity thieves to your personal information on your iOS device.

How to Turn Off iPhone Wi-Fi:

Have you connected to a network only it didn’t connect properly? Once your iPhone or iPad has remembered the wireless network it will attempt to connect. You can disable Internet access permanently or temporarily Wi-Fi connections and connect via 3G, 4G LTE using your iPhone’s cellular connection. Keep in mind that if you do turn off Wi-Fi it will be using your data plan solely, which may cause additional charges.

Home Screen > Settings > Wi-Fi > Toggle Off

How to Disable a Wi-Fi Network from iPhone 5:

Additionally you may opt to remove the network from your iPhone device’s Wi-Fi list by using the setting forget this network. Go to your iPhone 5s settings and tap into Wi-Fi and choose the network that is isn’t connecting properly. Next tap forget this network. A pop up will say forget “network name” to stop automatically joining this network & press forget.

How to Stop iPhone Pop-ups Asking to Join Networks:

Your iPhone stores familiar Wi-Fi networks to memory. iPhone 5 connects to know networks & will join automatically. If no know networks are available, you will be asked before joining a new network.

You can disable these Wi-Fi alerts and opt to manually join networks. Keep in mind that once you disable your iPhone from asking to join free networks it will only connect to know networks or rely on cellular connectivity. Make sure that you monitor your iPhone 5s data plan to ensure you do not exceed your carrier’s internet data plan and incur additional charges.

How to Disable Cellular Data & Avoid iPhone Data Roaming Charges:

Disable your iPhone 5s cellular data connection while traveling in order to avoid extensive data charges. I recommend disabling both the cellular roaming & cellular data connectivity while traveling abroad. These changes will help you avoid international data roaming charges.

Home Screen > Settings > General > Cellular > Data Roaming > Toggle Off

Navigate to your settings and tap general. Cellular will have several custom setting options including the ability to turn on and off data roaming when outside your carrier’s coverage. You also turn off cellular data connectivity all together which is great for travel. Internet will only be accessible through public or private Wi-Fi networks.

Home Screen > Settings > General > Cellular > Cellular Data > Toggle Off

Lastly you may adjust enabling LTE or set up personal hotspot. Using your iPhone 5’s internet connection with your computer or iOS devices like iPad, or MacBook via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or USB.

Home Screen > Settings > General > Cellular > LTE > Toggle On/Off
